Conrad Cornell

Conrad Cornell co-founded Press Sports, a social platform built only for team sport athletes, with about 700,000 of them on it.

Banyas brought him onto the SALTYmf GOAT Podcast after going through the platform and thinking about what it would have meant to him in high school, or to his own four kids, all of whom played. Cornell's read was that the two companies started the same way, with somebody saying out loud that they could not believe this did not already exist. By the end of the episode they had agreed on air to run a goat of the week together, and Cornell said the draft was already open on his computer.

He played baseball at Mercer University in Macon and got to the end of his career with no highlights to look back on. He had never wanted to post his own footage on Instagram. Neither had his teammates, including a first round pick who went on to win rookie of the year with the Mariners. When they went and asked middle and high schoolers, 90 percent of athletes and 99 percent of female athletes said they did not feel comfortable posting highlights on mainstream social. So Press Sports shows a middle school volleyball player in Texas other players at her level instead of the best in the world. It holds a career in one place, the seventh grade footage first, the teams, the target list of schools, measurables the app can verify. It carries 4.9 stars across 12,000 reviews, a lot of them written by parents.

The company asked its users what they identify as most. Out of a couple hundred answers the top one, at 33 percent, was underdog. That is the part Cornell thinks lines up with this brand, kids with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. On draft day last year the office sat watching the first five picks come off the board and pulled up every one of their profiles.
